The furniture workshop was organised in several stages including the collection of old and disposed material, a one-day welding course, the construction phase and the testing phase. The awareness towards the old construction materials, often dumped at some marginal location and its reuse lies in the centre of the Critical Concrete collective work. The collective in that sense promotes sustainable architecture and creates design strategies for socially disadvantaged communities and locations. The process of refurbishment usually includes the co-creation and co-working as well as theoretical and practical educational programmes. In the case of the furniture workshop, the basic material found was old steel and wood that could be reused. After collecting the materials, the welding course introduced basic information and techniques on how to construct a simple steel frame for the table. At the end the steel was painted black to protect it against the corrosion. The massive wooden planks were mounted on the top of it and voila! The bar was ready to be used for the open events at the GrETUA theatre. The discussion round that followed was used as a testing phase.
